Featured Projects

From time to time I plan to put up projects that I found especially enjoyable.  Sometimes it’s technical challenges, other times the process and work flow, hopefully always the artistry!

All the work exhibited here is owned solely by myself or the client it was produced for and may not be duplicated in any way.

SAW 5

The First Project I want to look at is the Saw 5 Bathroom project.  The idea was to place type inside of a filthy bathroom and create interesting camera moves within the environment.  We all felt that a hand held camera would be the best approach.  I first experimented with some scripting and custom tools within maya, but was not happy with the rather generic results.  So I started thinking about how one could use a real camera, hand held and then somehow extrapolate the motion from that.

The first step was shooting some footage that I could track.  Using a Panasonic HVX200, I shot footage inside an office that approximated the camera move I wanted in CG.

Then I brought the footage into SynthEyes and tracked the camera.

I then exported the tracked camera into Maya, build the room geometry, textures and lighting.  Using groups and constraints I was able to layer up the animation of the camera to get the exact move I was after.
